What you can do

You can renew your Victorian registration for 12 months on a:

• car
• truck
• caravan
• trailer
• motorcycle
• boat

If you've already signed up for short-term registration with VicRoads, you can pay your 3- or 6- month rego easily with us now.

It can take up to 3 days for your record to update after you pay. You’re allowed to drive, but keep your emailed receipt on you in case you need it.

Veterans Card — Victoria holders can register caravans or trailers for free and get $100 off light vehicle rego.

You can pay using BPAY, Visa or Mastercard. BPAY is surcharge-free. A 0.48% fee applies for cards.

  

How we use your info

We’ll pass on your info to VicRoads to process your vehicle or vessel registration renewal. We won’t use your info for any other purpose unless permitted by law. You can contact us or if you want to access your personal info. Learn more about how we use your info.

Credit card fees

VicRoads applies this fee to recover the cost Visa and Mastercard charge. If you don't want to pay this fee, you can:

• BPAY with the details on your renewal notice, which we'll email you after you get started
• set up a direct debit,
• visit a  or Australia Post.

How much will my registration cost?

The cost of your rego depends on what you are registering —car, motorcycle, caravan, trailer, truck or boat.

Can I pay for a shorter registration period? 3 or 6 months, for example?

You can’t do this through Service Victoria yet. But you’ll be able to in future.

How do I check a vehicle or vessel’s registration?

It’s free to check a vehicle’s registration.

Visit the  to see if a vehicle or vessel is: 

• Stolen
• Written off
• Registered in another state
• Has an outstanding debt.

Do I need to carry my receipt with me to prove I paid?

You don’t have to, but it’s a good idea to keep a copy of your receipt on you for a few days. 

VicRoads update your records as soon as you pay. But it can take up to 72 hours to process.

How do the police know I’ve registered my vehicle if there's no sticker?

Police use Automated Number Plate Recognition technology to scan traffic.

They have access to VicRoads systems to check vehicle registration. 

What’s the fine if a person drives an unregistered vehicle?

If anyone drives an unregistered vehicle you own on public roads, police may fine you up to $1427.

We collect personal info VicRoads needs to renew your vehicle or vessel registration. The Road Safety Act 1986 and the Marine Safety Act 2010 permits VicRoads to renew your registration.

You can’t renew your vehicle or vessel registration without giving this info.
